Love INC builds relationships with our neighbors in need, typically referred to us by local churches, surrounding school districts, and the Hershey Medical Center, rather than give direct cash assistance. By offering supplemental support such as transportation to a doctor’s appointment, a hot meal, visitation, or yard care, many of Love INC’s clients start to feel cared for, valued, and connected.
Love INC of Greater Hershey operates a call center, called a Clearinghouse, where Love INC listens compassionately and thoroughly evaluates all requests for assistance to determine the extent and source of need and legitimacy. Verified requests are referred to a local church ministry, church volunteer, or community agency. Love INC follows up to ensure the need was met and to offer support.
Also, when there are gaps in local services, Love INC attempts to fill the void. Currently, Love INC of Greater Hershey has three “gap” ministries: The Bicycle Ministry, providing bicycles to children and adults; a Personal Care Closet, providing personal, household, and baby basics not covered by food stamps; and The Parsonage Ministries, a free, home away from home for families of patients at the local hospital.
In 2013 Love In The Name of Christ of the Greater Hershey area had 453 volunteers working with us. We had 181 brand new clients in 2013 as well as 962 established families that were helped with our services/ministries. We also worked with 497 individuals received transformational services. Your contributions, monetary as well as volunteer hours helped impact our community in a positive way.
